Syria’s UN Ambassador Just Accused the US of Training Terrorists in His Country

(MEMO) — Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari has accused the United States of training “terrorists” in sites that it occupies in his country, near Jordan’s border, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) has reported.

The Syrian diplomat said during a Security Council meeting that in the past eight years his country has suffered from a “terrorist war” that has been backed and financed by certain governments.

“Those governments have allocated billions of dollars to militarize the situation in Syria and they have created and funded armed terrorist groups that adopted odd slogans,” Jaafari was quoted by SANA as saying.

He alleged that the United States continues to train terrorists in 19 “occupied” sites in Syria, including al-Tanf and al-Rukban camp on the Iraqi, Jordanian and Syrian triangle border, and it supplies to them arms and ammunition.

“Some governments still politicize the humanitarian aid file in Syria and they falsify information, fabricate evidence and tamper with reports about chemical weapon use in Syria,” he said, reiterating his government’s denial of using chemical weapons, according to SANA.

He added that Syrians have resisted terrorists, defeated them and made them retreat from large areas in the country, and he vowed that Syrians will defeat terrorism and “Israeli occupation” in all of Syria.
